Is Your “Healthy” Juice Harming Your Liver? A Doctor Weighs In

Date:

That glass of fruit juice you think is healthy might be contributing to liver problems, warns a prominent gastroenterologist. He has identified sugary drinks, including juices, as one of three key food categories to avoid for liver health. The doctor describes these beverages as “liquid poison” because even natural fruit juices are often high in concentrated fructose without the fiber of whole fruit. This sugar rush hits the liver hard, leading to fat production and accumulation. The expert also advises against deep-fried foods. He explains that they are high in unhealthy fats that cause inflammation and fat deposition in the liver, directly contributing to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The third category to avoid is ultra-processed foods. This includes many popular snack foods and convenience meals like chips, hot dogs, and sugary cereals, which are detrimental due to their combination of unhealthy fats, sugars, and additives. This doctor’s insight challenges common misconceptions about “healthy” foods and urges a closer look at the sugar content in our drinks.
