A gastroenterologist has revealed seven fruits and vegetables that can boost liver health by targeting key functions like blood flow and fat metabolism. These simple dietary additions can help strengthen your liver naturally.
For boosting blood flow, the expert recommends watermelon paired with lime. Watermelon contains citrulline, which supports nitric oxide production, and lime adds vitamin C. Together, they promote healthy circulation to the liver. Beetroot also aids this process with its high nitrate content.
For fighting fat, the doctor singles out beetroot again. Beyond its nitrates, beetroot contains betaine, a “nutrient that helps the liver process and move fat out of liver cells.” Raspberries also help, as their fiber and anthocyanins improve the body’s ability to process fats after meals and regulate blood sugar.
The specialist also highlights foods that support the gut and fight inflammation. Cranberries contain prebiotic polyphenols for the gut-liver axis. Pomegranates are rich in compounds that research suggests can calm inflammatory signals affecting the liver.
Finally, the list includes two more beneficial pairings. Apples with cinnamon support insulin sensitivity and healthy lipid levels. Strawberries with dark chocolate (70% cocoa) are packed with flavanols that improve blood vessel function and cardiometabolic health.
