The proposed measures are aimed at companies engaged in activities such as oil exploration in the contested waters, which Argentina claims as part of its territorial rights.
Milei’s administration plans to introduce legislation in Congress that would bolster penalties against these companies. Additionally, the government is considering actions that would restrict the ability of sanctioned firms to operate elsewhere within Argentina. This development comes at a time when the Sea Lion offshore oil project, a collaborative venture between Rockhopper Exploration and Navitas Petroleum, is garnering increased attention.
