Russia Strikes Ukraine: Iranian Weapons Used as Trump Administration Pursues Peace

Date:

Russian forces killed one person and injured 15 others using Iranian-made weapons in attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv, while the Trump administration pursued peace through multiple diplomatic initiatives. The strikes on residential areas continued even as American envoys engaged with both Russian and Ukrainian leadership.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned residents that the capital faced a “massive enemy attack,” instructing people to remain in protective shelters. The bombardment targeted residential buildings, causing casualties and extensive damage. Heat and water infrastructure was disrupted in multiple districts, affecting thousands of civilians during winter.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Kharkiv experienced attacks from Iranian-manufactured Shahed drones, which damaged several residential complexes. The use of Iranian weapons highlighted the international dimensions of the conflict, with Russia relying on foreign military technology. The northeastern city has endured relentless bombardment throughout the war.
In Abu Dhabi, negotiators from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States convened for two-day talks aimed at ending the conflict. The UAE foreign ministry characterized the discussions as focused on “promoting dialogue and identifying political solutions to the crisis.” The Donbas region remained a critical sticking point, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov maintaining Russia’s demand for Ukrainian military withdrawal.
President Zelensky expressed optimism following his meeting with President Trump, announcing that peace proposals were approaching completion. He proposed establishing a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Kyiv’s control, which he discussed with the American leader. President Putin met separately with Trump’s envoys, as the administration pursued peace through multiple diplomatic channels.
