The Maharaj Show: Spinner’s Brilliance Lights Up Cairns

Date:

Cazaly’s Stadium was illuminated by the brilliance of Keshav Maharaj as he bowled South Africa to a spectacular 98-run win over Australia. The spinner’s one-man show saw him claim a career-best 5-33, single-handedly dismantling the Australian chase and earning Player of the Match honors.
Australia, chasing 297, looked comfortable at 0-60 before “The Maharaj Show” began. In a devastating 10-over spell, he bamboozled the hosts’ middle order, triggering an astonishing collapse of 6-29. At one stage, his figures read a scarcely believable 5-9.
The foundation for his heroics was laid by the Proteas’ batsmen. Aiden Markram (82) and Temba Bavuma (65) both posted impressive half-centuries to guide their team to a challenging total of 8-296. A late cameo from Wiaan Mulder (31*) provided the perfect finish to their innings.
Captain Mitch Marsh fought a lonely battle for Australia with a valiant 88, but he was left with too much to do. The rest of the batting lineup had no answers to Maharaj’s mastery, crumbling to 198 all out.
